Liss Men's Shed 2019

Liss Men's Shed was launched at Liss Christmas Fair on 7th December 2019.  We were pleased to sponsor the group by donating 12 personalised hi-vis vests.

The Men’s Shed group is an international organisation set up to help alleviate the isolation of men caused by, for example, retiring from work, bereavement, medical and other conditions.  Men's Sheds are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create.  The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together.  The Men’s Shed movement originated in Australia.  At the time of publishing this article there were over 550 sheds throughout the UK, open to all to gather and work on meaningful projects or just socialise.  Many that attend are retired. Life after employment can be difficult as men often feel they’ve lost their sense of purpose and place in the world, lacking the routine and camaraderie of working life.  As well as reducing loneliness and isolation, the aim of Men's Sheds is to give those who visit the chance to chat, pick up a hobby, share concerns and desires with fellow members, and to provide a safe space to talk and enjoy each other’s company in a non-pressurised environment.  Liss Men's Shed is a member of the UK Men's Sheds Association.

We wish the group every success with their future projects.  You can find out more about Liss Men's shed on their website here.
