Air Ambulance 2020-2021

In 2022 we were delighted to present Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (our charity of the year for 2020-21) with a donation of £4,040.52.  This had mostly been raised when twenty members of staff and their family/friends participated in a muddy obstacle course charity challenge in September 2021.  However, additional funds were also raised through in-store and online donations too.

Each year we nominate a charity partner who we fundraise for at various events throughout that particular year, but sadly in 2020 along came Covid-19 and virtually all of our events had to be cancelled, and hence our fundraising activities were completely disrupted.  We therefore adopted the charity for a second year in 2021 to give us some chance of fundraising, albeit during unusual and restricted circumstances.

The charity - which many people are surprised to learn receives no funding and relies solely on donations in order to maintain its life-saving service - had come to the rescue of one of our staff members in 2018 when he had a medical emergency at home.  Their prompt action went a long way towards his recovery, as time was so crucial to him.

Available both day and night, 365 days a year, the Air Ambulance Critical Care Team is made up of highly skilled crews of doctors, paramedics and pilots, who are called out many times a day to attend a wide variety of incidents.  To maintain this life-saving service the charity needs to raise in excess of £15,000 every day!

On behalf of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, their Fundraising Manager, Ray Southam, said:  “I would like to thank the team at Coomers for the dedication you have shown our organisation, particularly during a challenging period.  It is only with dedicated supporters such as yourselves, that allow our charity to remain flying high and saving lives across the county.”  He further put our fundraising efforts into context by explaining that our fundraising has contributed to saving a life, as their average mission cost is a little over £3,300.

We, in turn, would like to say a huge thank you to all our staff, customers, and friends/family who kindly donated or participated in any way towards raising these funds for an excellent and vital cause.

2021 was our eleventh year of adopting an annual charity and we're delighted that at that time over £44,000 had been raised to-date for various charities.
