Alton Local Food Initiative 2022

Alton Local Food Initiative (ALFI) was formed in 2009 to encourage and enable people in the local community to be involved in growing, sourcing and eating local, seasonal and responsibly produced food.  They do this by looking after 11 growing plots in and around Alton town, holding events to share seeds, swapping seedlings and promoting local produce.  Local children are encouraged to get involved through an annual competition, whilst the plots themselves are entered into the annual “Alton in Bloom” competition.  ALFI promotes fresh local produce and looks at ways of supporting local producers and small businesses whilst encouraging people to consider the environmental impact of food production and transportation.  ALFI also produce seasonal recipe leaflets to encourage and inspire people to cook and eat local fruit and vegetables.

We were approached by ALFI in summer 2022 as they were looking for some Scottish Pebbles to enhance the appearance of and protect their plot at Alton station from regular daily footfall.  Our Alton branch were pleased to donate some bags of Scottish Pebbles, and we wish them well with their plots, both at the station and around the town!

You can find out more about ALFI here.
