Grayswood Nursery & Forest School 2018 Grayswood Nursery & Forest School 2018

Grayswood Nursery 2018

Our Haslemere branch was pleased to donate some pallets and timber offcuts to Grayswood Nursery and Forest School, who wrote to thank us and tell us about their school, current projects and what they made with our donated items.

The school is based in the village of Grayswood, just outside Haslemere.  They have a beautifully resourced classroom in the Village Hall with access to the village green where the children can enjoy playing in their outside classroom.  Their workshop on the village green enables the children to create 'things' and so enhance their fine motor skills through the use of hand tools, whilst also putting into practice their mathematical skills in a real and authentic manner - all very powerful learning opportunities.

Just a little way around the corner is their Forest School site, which was being developed in an idyllic piece of woodland where children can immerse themselves in nature and all the fun learning opportunities it has to offer.  A mud kitchen - utilising our donated pallets and offcuts - was built for the school by a kindly and skilful parent and is located next to the stream, which trickles and babbles its way through the woodland - a wonderful place to access mud!  Beside the woodland is a field that was being returned to a wildflower meadow with small orchard where the children would be able to care for fruit trees and hopefully some re-homed battery hens.

The school believes wholeheartedly in the power of nature and natural resources to enhance children's development holistically.
