Charity Challenge 2019

On Saturday 31st August 2019, ten excited members of Team Coomers “Nuts & Bolts” got up early, ate a good breakfast and got their “game on” to play in the mud for the company's charity of the year.  They did the Nuts Challenge:  A 7km, 100+ obstacle course with lots of water, mud, and plenty of laughs!

They slid down banks into water, clambered over piles of tyres, jumped into a lot of muddy water, climbed along ropes - you name it, they did it!  The team finished with a wade through a lake and crossed the finish line with huge smiles and all together.  Stacey - who organised the day for our staff - commented:  "It was a great experience and a huge pleasure to do it with the best people.  We topped the day off with a meal as by then we were ready to eat an entire house!  Every minute we had out there on the course was incredible.  The teamwork and the fun.  Being able to raise money for such a worthwhile charity was so important to us as well."

Coomers Charity Challenge 2019

As much fun as it was to do this however, our staff were there for a reason, and they didn’t forget it.  That reason is the company's charity of the year, SUDEP Action.  SUDEP stands for Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.  There are at least 21 epilepsy-related deaths each week in the UK.  That's a number way too large, particularly when we consider that a big proportion of these deaths are potentially preventable.  Very sadly in 2004 eleven year old Becky from Alton fell victim to SUDEP and had only been diagnosed as having epilepsy less than two weeks beforehand.  Since then her parents have worked passionately with the charity to raise awareness of the risks.

We're delighted to say that the total raised for SUDEP Action by Team "Nuts & Bolts" was £1,351 and the great news is that our ten crazy staff enjoyed it so much that over double the number of staff have already signed up to do it all over again for charity!

Coomers Charity Challenge 2019

Our grateful thanks to Stacey, Jackie W, Jackie B, Harry, Jodie, Sam, Nigel, Terry, Steve & Nicky for taking part.  Also a huge thank you to staff, family, friends etc who sponsored our staff and enabled them to raise such a great sum for the charity.
